Levees.org

Levees.Org is a grassroots organization dedicated to educating the public and improving quality of out flood protection in South Louisiana. Our group currently has over 21,000 members nationwide and enjoys broad support from businesses, environmentalists, local government, citizens groups and neighborhood associations throughout South Louisiana.

Improving Louisiana’s flood protection begins with acknowledging that the catastrophic flooding of Greater New Orleans was mostly man-made and avoidable. After the levee failures of 2005, scientists and experts worldwide stated that our region was devastated by a premature and complete collapse of a federal flood protection system that was should have withstood Katrina’s storm surge. American lives and livelihoods were lost because in many cases, safety was exchanged for efficiency and reduced cost.

Levees.Org believes that the United States can do better. If reforms are made, Greater New Orleans will never again have to suffer a repeat of the horrific events of 2005 and the country as a whole will be safer.

Currently, we are requesting that Congress authorize an independent and bipartisan investigation into the failure of South Louisiana’s federal flood protection system.
